The EU needs more trade

To be competitive in the international market, Finland needs the EU. Around 60 % of Finland’s export goes to the EU-market. Even though the EU’s internal market is working fairly well, we need to improve the free movement of services and digital products. Currently there is no free trade agreement between the EU and the USA, which ought to be established. The EU needs more and better free trade agreements, in order to increase the economic growth of the member states

The EU needs to focus on the big things

The EU should focus on the big questions and let the member states make their own decisions. We must increase our cooperation when it comes to commerce, migration and fighting climate change. On the other hand the EU should stay away from questions within the field of social security, including labor, family and education.

The EU has to be safe

The EU’s border- and coastguard Frontex should be granted more resources, in order to better monitor both the EU’s internal security and the external borders. The EU also needs to work more actively to stop human trafficking. This means that the inserts against cross-border organized crime must be increased.

EU & Europe

The EU has been of great benefit to Europe and Finland. The Finnish economy has benefited from access to the internal market, it is easier to work, study and travel in other countries and companies can recruit a workforce that meets their needs. Many products and services have become both better and cheaper. Nevertheless, it is important to acknowledge that the EU is far from perfect. It is easy for the constructive to try to hide the problems when right-wing populism mobilizes, but I think we should be open to recognizing this problem. We must work openly and constructively to solve these problems and at the same time be proud and accept the many benefits that EU membership brings. I believe in an EU that works with the big issues such as free trade, mobility and international agreements where the EU has greater muscles than individual countries. At the same time, it is important that the EU respects the subsidiarity principle and avoids issues that are best regulated at national level. Snus is an example of an important matter of principle, where I do not see any reason why the EU should decide on the Member States' production and sales.

EU & The US

The EU needs strong cooperation with the United States. The US and the EU are based on the same western values, and we shall stand up for these. A free trade agreement should be established between two of the world's largest economies, and although it is difficult with the current administration in the United States, it is incredibly important to maintain a dialogue in order to accomplice this in the long run.
